Global Issues Forum: Incorporating Today’s News into Tomorrow’s International Contracts: Cross-Border Trade and Tax Developments - Implications for International Commercial Contracts. Wed., Oct. 4, 12 noon to 2 p.m., in Washington, D.C., or by web seminar.
Panel discussion with Donald V. Moorehead (Tax Strategy), Frank R. Samolis (International Trade) and Jeffrey R. Wahl (Commercial Contracts) of Squire Patton Boggs (US) LLP and John Cobau, Chief Counsel for International Commerce at the U.S. Department of Commerce, serving as lead attorney for the International Trade Administration.  The panel will review the latest developments and offer predictions on the efforts of the White House and Congress in the realms of international tax and trade.  What has happened?  What is expected?  What unintended consequences might result?  How does this affect your international commercial contracts that are heading into the contracting stage?  Are there ways to get in front of some of these issues via contract drafting? ** WHITMAN-WALKER HEALTH PRO BONO LEGAL CLINIC in Rockville, MD, Friday, October 20, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Sign up at http://www.cvent.com/d/5tqkpq. 
ACC National Capital Region and Whitman-Walker Health Legal Services are pleased to collaborate on an opportunity to provide pro bono services to persons who need assistance preparing the paperwork to change their names and gender markers on identity documents and in other legal records. Volunteers will work in teams to assist clients.

  • Registration and breakfast start at 8:30 a.m.

  • Training session (eligible for Virginia Bar MCLE credit) from 9 to 10:30 a.m.  We will start promptly at 9 a.m.

  • Clinic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Other notes:

  • Volunteers will be invited, but are not required, to provide on-going representation to clients.

  • Legal malpractice insurance provided by Whitman-Walker Health (for the clinic and ongoing representation).

  • Attorneys not licensed in the relevant jurisdiction will be paired with an attorney barred in the relevant jurisdiction when assigning clients. 

  • Legal paraprofessionals are also welcome to participate to provide administrative support.

** BOX-PACKING AT MANNA FOOD CENTER in Gaithersburg, MD, Tuesday, October 24, 7 to 8:30 p.m.- Sign up at http://www.cvent.com/d/8tq7p5. We will pack almost 200 boxes with non-perishable items for the clients of this food-distribution non-profit in Gaithersburg, MD. Members, friends, and their children over 8 years of age are welcome.
