Are We All A-Twitter?
WMACCA wants to do a better job of communicating with our members
|
|
We're very proud of everything WMACCA has to offer. Are we communicating the benefits to members in an effective way? How can we improve by taking advantage of some tools that many people are using?
WMACCA is convening a task force to examine whether we should use some of the popular social media tools - like LinkedIn and Twitter - to communicate with members. We're looking for members who actively use social media to participate in this group and provide us with suggestions on which tools to use, and how to best use them. Are you a Tweeter or a LinkedIn "super user" who would be willing to share your tips with us? You can join the task force by
sending an e-mail to Ilene Reid (ilene.Reid@WMACCA.com).

| Planning Ahead
|
|
WMACCA has a robust schedule of CLEs coming up in April, as you can see from the list of Upcoming Events (right).
For those who like to plan even further ahead, mark these dates on your calendar:
- Ages and Stages: Over the course of their careers, women attorneys face numerous decision points on the balance they want and need to strike between their personal and professional interests. On May 15, we will hold a panel discussion and networking event to explore the unique challenges women face as they navigate their career paths.
- Employment Law Conference: This annual half-day conference returns on June 6, with tracks at both the introductory and advanced level. We all have employees, so we all need to know (at least a little) about employment law!
- General Counsel Forum Signature Luncheon: Each year, we assemble a panel of prominent CLOs from companies in our service area for one of our most popular luncheon programs. On June 13, our panelists will explore the theme "We're Not Just Legal - We Mean Business."
- In-House Paralegal Institute: Paraprofessionals are critical members of the legal department. On June 19, we will provide a full day of primers on a variety of issues and matters with which legal assistants and analysts often assist.
More to come!

| Community-Minded
|
|
Lots of opportunities coming up soon to get involved with WMACCA's community service and pro bono projects. Save these dates -- details to come:
- Potomac River Watershed Clean-Up Day in Washington, DC -- WMACCA
members, friends and family will participate in the Alice Ferguson
Foundation's annual clean-up day, scheduled for Saturday, April 14, working to remove trash from the area
around the Washington Canoe Club at Georgetown Harbor.
Since its inception, the annual clean-up has resulted in the collection
of over 3 million pounds of trash along the Potomac Watershed area - the
largest volunteer-led clean-up on the East Coast. Just a few hours of
your time will make a big difference in our environment.
- Consumer Law Pro Bono Clinic in McLean, VA: WMACCA will hold a pro bono clinic for clients of Legal Services of Northern
Virginia on Thursday, April 19 from 10 am to 12 noon, at the offices
of Capital One in McLean, Virginia. The clinic will help clients
with consumer law issues. The event is open to attorneys
and paralegals. More information about training for the clinic and registration to come.
- Manna Food Center in Gaithersburg, MD -- WMACCA members will pack boxes with non-perishable items at this food pantry serving residents of Montgomery County, MD, on Thursday, April 19 and Thursday, May 17, starting at 6:45 p.m. A great project for families. Always a fun time.

| News Alert: Privacy Considerations Limit Geolocation Technologies
|
|
If Waldo had an iPhone, we easily would have picked him out of those crowd scenes. And, with a Garmin, Dionne Warwick would never have sung, "Do you know the way to San José?" While constant location positioning and reporting technologies have some real benefits, American courts are grappling with setting limits on the use of these tools in law enforcement and consumer litigation. This week's news alert - Privacy Considerations Limit Geolocation Technologies from Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice LLP, the 2012 Diamond sponsor of WMACCA - examines recent cases involving tracking devices (including the Supreme Court's ruling in Jones v. U.S.).
