Size Matters

Small legal departments (with 1-5 attorneys) make up approximately half of the WMACCA membership.  While we all have to carefully manage our resources, the lawyer(s) in these departments often face significant challenges in handling the myriad legal issues that come their way.

WMACCA has tried to meet the needs of practitioners in smaller departments with an emphasis on "101-level" programming.  But, we aren't sure that we are doing all we can do, so we are launching a Small Law Department Initiative.  Among the services we can provide are

  • in-person networking opportunities for attorneys at all levels in smaller departments.
  • CLEs that focus on the needs and concerns of attorneys in smaller departments.
  • a local eGroup for attorneys in smaller departments to circulate ideas, best practices, etc.

But what do you want us to do?  To try to suss that out, we will hold two town-hall meetings at breakfast time - one in Maryland on Wed., July 20, and one in NoVA on Wed., Aug. 3.  If you are interested in this initiative, you can attend one or both.  We'll kick them off with networking, then move into a discussion of how to best serve the small-law-department population.  We'll be sending an e-vite to these sessions next week.  Hope to see you there!

Packing Up?

As we kick into summer vacation season, many of you may be packing suitcases for a trip, or kids' duffel bags for summer camp.  Can you spare a few hours to help WMACCA pack?

On Monday, June 27, WMACCA will again gather a group to pack almost 200 boxes with non-perishable food items for the clients of Manna Food Center, a food-distribution non-profit in Gaithersburg, MD. Members, friends, and their children over 8 years of age are welcome.  We gather at 6:45 p.m. and are usually done in about two hours.  And it's really a lot of fun.  Join us?  Click here for more information and registration...

Law Firm Ratings: The ACC Value Index is a service for ACC members, by in‐house counsel, for in‐house counsel, which of course means that its depth and breadth depends on member contributions.
