I am an in-house attorney whose primary practice is in real estate law, and I am looking for educational tools and materials that focus on this practice.  Does ACC have any resources that are specific to, or involving, real estate law?

Answer:  Yes, ACC offers a number of resources to members interested in real estate law.  The Real Estate Law Committee (REC)  holds a monthly teleconference call that includes “Legal Quick Hits” on hot topics; provides a Listserv for committee members; and is sponsoring the session “602: Negotiation of Commercial Real Estate Leases,” at this year’s Annual Meeting in Seattle.

Additional resources include:
• Annual Meeting Program Materials: Session #108: Real Estate Transactions for Corporate Counsel
•  Also offered as an Online CLE Program
•  Webcast: Managing International Real Estate Portfolios, 2007
•  ACC Docket: Outsource Resource “Real Estate Management,” June 2008
•  Sample Form: Sample Opening Co-Tenancy Clauses
•  Sample Form: Cash Lease Agreement
•  Sample Form:  Power of Attorney (Special Power of Attorney for Closing Real Estate Transaction)

ACC’s Corporate Compliance & Ethics DVD: Real-Life Scenarios and Practical Applications Illuminated

ACC has completed production on its Ethical Issues for Corporate Counsel DVD, which brings to light real-life corporate scenarios and the difficult judgments that in-house counsel must make. From navigating internal investigations and employee interviews, to the ethics of supervising off-shored and outsourced work, to the hiring of professional investigators to collect background facts, and even, the issues involved in “global” counseling --- this DVD provides a great discussion platform for your next chapter meeting or department retreat.  Written specifically for in-house counsel, with your needs and interests in mind, the scenarios have been developed to engage discussion about “what happens next” and to help you gauge responses to difficult situations. More information about the DVD will be available on www.acc.com …. and be sure to sign up for the Ethics SuperSession at this year’s Annual Meeting in Seattle and join ACC Senior Vice President & General Counsel Susan Hackett as she leads a discussion in conjunction with the DVD vignettes to help determine how our corporate counsel hero should handle the situations presented.

ACC Top Ten: What You Should Know About States AG Activities

Over the past two decades, State Attorneys General (AGs) have significantly increased the number of investigations and litigations targeting business and industry. This increase is due to, among other things, a perceived lack of federal law enforcement requiring AGs to “fill the void,” as well as the increasing tendency of states to join together to coordinate activity through “multi-state” actions. Check out this month's ACC Top Ten to learn the top ten things you should know about State Attorneys General activities.  If you are interested in writing an ACC Top Ten tip, contact Nichole Opkins for more information.
