II.  What Law Firms Want From Clients and What Clients Want From Law Firms (One Hour)
.
The premise of the ACC Value Challenge is to encourage the firms and clients to engage in the dialogue with each other to seek out ways of more clearly and effectively aligning the value of the legal services provided. This panel discussion will focus on asking the following questions. How can we reestablish trust and improve our relationship? How can we assure an adequate flow of work to the firm, so that the outside lawyers know the client better and can be more efficient in what they do? How can we get junior lawyers better trained, priced at more reasonable levels, practicing law more on the front line, and less likely to leave? How can we better budget and manage costs and staffing? How can we better institutionalize the relationship? How can we evaluate progress and performance? How can we create a culture of continuous improvement?

Panelists:
Elizabeth Balfour, Partner, Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP

Kenneth Fitzgerald, Partner, Latham & Watkins

Denise Jackson, Senior Vice President & General Counsel, AMN Healthcare, Inc.

Terry O’Malley, Partner, DLA Piper

III. 40 Great Ideas in 40 Minutes (One Hour)

Participants will work in table discussion groups of 10 to identify top practices that focus on value in connection with legal services. These ideas can relate to: structuring relationships (the process, strategies to manage the relationship); budgeting process; performance metrics; demonstrating how the law department adds value; leveraging
knowledge, creative staffing and beyond.

Following 40 minutes of tabletop discussions, each table will report out to the larger group 10 practices they discussed. The outcome of this session is to develop 40 ideas that share best practices and leverage learning.

IV. Thinking Outside of the Box Panel Discussion (One Hour)
