ACC Update - March 24, 2015 (Plain Text Version)
Message from Colleen Struss, Nonprofit Organizations Committee Chair
The Nonprofit Organizations Committee (NOC) is your committee. The value we bring is leveraged by your participation and willingness to share your knowledge. We thank you for participating in NOC programs and look forward to a terrific year!
This year, we will focus on education.
This year, we will focus on education. From sessions at the Annual Meeting to on-point webcasts, from LQHs that provide information you can use today to opportunities for peer-to-peer knowledge sharing, the NOC leadership has developed a robust education program to help maximize the value you receive from ACC. The next page of this newsletter highlights some of those education and training opportunities. We hope that you will participate in these programs and that they prove useful and worth your time.

This session will include an overview of legal landmines associates with forming and operating a corporate charity and serving on non-profit boards. Many corporate leaders are asked to serve on non-profit boards or decide to form and operate charitable organizations, but even a simple error can have significant adverse legal and financial consequences for the corporation – or even the individual director. This program will cover some of the more common legal issues impacting 501(c)(3) orgs and the ethical issues facing in-house counsel who may be asked to advise the charitable org or asked to serve on a non-profit board.
We’re looking for speakers! Contact Dan Koslofsky or the program organizer if you are interested or have a recommended panelist.

Please join us on Tuesday, April 14th at 3:00 PM ET, 7:00 PM GMT for our monthly committee call. During the call there will be a Legal Quick Hit entitled "Interacting with State and Local Governments: What Your Nonprofit Needs to Know about Lobbying and Gift Rules." The presentation will cover common issues to consider when determining whether you need to register or report in a state and some of the common themes in gift and ethics law.
Want to meet non-profit colleagues in your area? Volunteer to host a micro-networking lunch! The ACC staff will assist with finding other members in your area. All that’s needed from you is to make the reservation and host the event. [return to top]
